UPRS held an agency licensing training workshop scheduled from 29th November to 2nd December 2022 at its offices in Bukoto.

The main theme of the training was 'The Copyright Law & The CMO Rationale'.

The workshop focused on the role of collective administration, where rights holders authorize collective management organizations to monitor use of works, negotiate licenses, collect fees, and distribute royalties among rights owners.

UPRS held a meeting with the Director General of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO), Mr. Bemanya Twebaze, to lobby for support in advancing copyright administration.

The meeting brought together representatives from URSB, UPRS, UFMI, and ARIPO.

It reflected a shared commitment to shaping the copyright and related rights landscape in Africa.

UPRS participated in the ongoing sub-regional conference organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in collaboration with ARIPO.

The conference theme was 'Shaping the copyright and related rights landscape in Africa'.

Key issues included data for copyright and related rights, commercialization of creative assets at national level, and the importance of statistics in advancing the copyright agenda.

UPRS was represented by Ms. Morrine Nassuna, the Acting CEO.

UPRS organized a two-day training workshop for licensing agents with support from IFPI and SAMPRA at Esella Country Hotel in Kira.

The training highlighted the role of UPRS as a Collective Management Organization for music rights.

Participants were guided on monitoring use of members’ works, negotiating tariffs and licensing conditions, issuing licenses on behalf of local and foreign members, and collecting and distributing royalties.

UPRS announced a partnership with TUMUDA as part of its agency licensing and collection model.

The move was intended to expand service coverage beyond the central region and strengthen revenue mobilization for members.

TUMUDA was identified as a strategic partner because of its national footprint in music distribution, publishing, artist promotion, and industry investment.

UPRS described TUMUDA as the first of many third-party music agents it would work with across the country.
